Risky Regencies

Week in Review

(*Quick note–the pic really has nothing to do with today’s post. I just felt like celebrating Saturday, and how better than with an Orlando pirate photo!)
A short post today! My RWA chapter is having a bookseller/librarian reception at a swanky restaurant this afternoon, and I have to decide what to wear. Then I have to pack up books and promo materials and haul them to my car. So, here’s what I’ve been doing this week:
1) Watching The Tudors. I don’t get Showtime, so a friend had to record it for me, and I just caught the first two episodes. I was really looking forward to this. My WIP is set in almost this exact period (late 1520s, when Anne Boleyn was on the rise), and I find Jonathan Rhys Meyers to be way sexy (though not at all Henry VIII-like). But it was–well, it was dull. And tacky-looking (and not in a good way, like a bobbling hula dancer figurine). A bit disappointed.
2) Doing the Dancing With the Stars Cardio Dance Workout DVD. Warning–whine ahead! This darn thing is hard. And it does not help to have perky, flat-abs Kym yapping at me to “Use your arms! Make it fun! Can’t you feel the burn on your backside?” But when they have Dancing With the Romance Writers I’m going to be ready to dance with Maks. Not to mention ready for sundress season. And I’m pretty sure no one ever died from attempting the jive, though it sometimes feels like it.
3) Playing with some new makeup. I bought some stuff at Sephora from Smashbox’s new Tokidoki line, which has the cutest packaging ever (okay, yeah, so I sort of bought the book for the cover here, but Smashbox usually has very nice products. I swear by their primer). The coral pink lipgloss is fabulous. You can find it here.
4) And reaching page 160 on that Tudor-set WIP! More than halfway through!
What have you been up to this week???

Dull. That’s the PERFECT word for THE TUTORS. I don’t know how it can be dull, but it is. A big tacky yawn fest!

Much better to spend your time on your WIP, which we all know will be neither dull nor tacky!

Now I feel better about not having Showtime! 🙂

So, what have I been doing? Um…

Does reading Astonishing X-Men and watching Stargate count? 🙂

Oh, you mean, like, work?

Well, I caught up on all the bills and paid the taxes. Yay!

The sun was shinning two days in a row. Double Yay!

Amanda: The Henry WIP is coming along at a fast clip. Your mother will have to alter that dress she’s just finished. Looks like the dance workouts are having a significant impact!! 🙂

It took me a while to figure out the 5 ft 6 in and 5 ft 3 in. I’m 5 ft 4 in.

This week I mostly did my copy edits for The Vanishing Viscountess. Even before I wrote that book, I planned to use the name of Mallory Pickerloy, one of our bloggers here, for my heroine. She gave me permission and the two of us were thrilled about it. But the PTB at Harlequin did not want me to use a real person’s name, so I had to pick a different one. The copy editor was supposed to have made the change, which would have been very simple, using the computer, but when I read the final copy, it had not been done and I had to go through and change everything by hand. Hope I caught them all, because it was hard when I will always “think” of my heroine as Mallory.

Well, 5 feet even here–not even the DWTS workout is ever going to help that. Sigh.

Cara, I think that definitely qualifies as a productive week. 🙂

Kalen, I HOPE my book will not be tacky or dull! I definitely know the female characters will have far better clothes than the women in the the TV show. What was up with those? I sat through the episodes thinking, “How is it there is all this sex, and JRM with his pouty lips, and still I would rather do my laundry than watch any more?” 🙂

Diane, good luck with the copy edits! Once I had a CE change all my hero’s titles, and I had to go and change them all back by hand. I feel for you. What’s the heroine’s new name?

The copy edits are done and in the mail! First time I ever had to mail a manuscript to the UK. I’ve done everything else by email

What did I do this week?

I looked back at my calendar for the week (which I keep on my computer). Green for work, blue for home. It’s just a sea of green. Kind of makes me want to lie down and not do anything.

Hmm. “Sea of Green.” Catchy. Somebody should use that as a song lyric…what rhymes with “green?” “Machine?” “Spleen?” “Submarine?” Naaahh, it’ll never work…
