LOLRegencies and a contest

I blame it all on Azteclady who made the suggestion in the discussion following Pam Rosenthal’s recent appearance here. She suggested LOLRegencies, after we talked about the implied silliness of the Elgin picture at right, a marvelous mixed bag of a portrait that begged for a caption. Or several.

So I indulged in a little time-wasting.

And here’s my idea. Send me your LOLRegency (as a low-res jpg) and I’ll post them for Thanksgiving Day. I have a couple of copies of the English edition (pink!) of The Rules of Gentility to give away to my favorites. Please let me know what form of your name to put with your artwork. Also, don’t make your art too big or too small–that said, I’d suggest you make them about the same size as the ones here, whatever that may be.

The email address is riskies@yahoo.com. Put LOLRegencies in the subject line, and send your efforts to me before midnight (EST) on Wednesday, November 26.

Update following Diane’s questions: if you don’t have photoshop, or some such (I used Appleworks), send me the pic and the caption(s). And I’m hoping to assemble these early on Thanksgiving morning, hence the deadline of late Wednesday, because I know so many of us will be dealing with a rock-hard frozen turkey and a hairdryer late at night…

Here’s a LOLRegencies insight into Jane Austen’s creative process:

and an insight into mine:

Looking forward to seeing much silliness and creativity….

HA HA HA HA!!!

That is the funniest thing I have seen in ages, and that means something considering this is the home of StarTrek Austen! I have zero photoshop/whatever skillz to participate but I’ll await results with utmost anxiety!

I especially love “….must be in want of a herring….”

I’m going to break my Nanowrimo blogging hiatus to link to this.

Brava, Ms. Mullany. If I didn’t already own RoG I’d go out and buy a copy, just out of gratitude for giving my diaphragm such a vigourous workout.

What FUN, Janet!!!!!
I’ll have to make a contribution.

For those without photoshop skills, can they send you the photo and the caption separately? It would give you more work but I suspect you would have more entries.

And do they send their LOLRegencies to riskies@yahoo.com

or some other email?

and, lastly, how come all your characters in the pictures have such deplorable grammar?

One more question because midnight and noon always fox me.

Did you mean midnight Weds Nov 26 turning TG day Nov 27?

Or Tuesday, Nov 25 turning Weds Nov 26?

This is daunting. I cannot even aspire to make one half as funny as the the ones you’ve made, especially the Lord Elgin one and the Jane Austen one!!!

Yes, I do!

And yes, use riskies@yahoo.com to send them to, but put LOLRegencies in the subject line because it’s a bit spammy round here.

Thanks, M., and I too wasted valuable time fooling around with this instead of plugging away at NaNoWriMo (which must be the most annoying word ever to type…)

How is this my fault?

(and this is one of those times where having *some* creativity would be great!)

Ms. Gaston: ref abysmal grammar etc, you might like to take a look at one of the granddaddies of LOL,

icanhascheezeburger.com

The idea being that the cats and other creatures shown have a vivid thought process but sadly, not much formal education. Hence the interesting spelling.

I’ll email you. I’m not so sure what to do, if you meant to find a picture and add a caption of something funny about it? I’m not sure. I have no idea how to caption on a picture. I’ll email for help πŸ™‚

But I love looking for regency and historical pics!

Janet, I’ve attached two pictures to an e-mail to the address mentioned on the blog.

I already own a copy of Gentility so you may take me out of the running for the contest.

BTW you don’t need Photoshop to do this. Paint will do it and it’s on most computers, I think.

Janet! This is brilliant! I must post it everywhere! And rack my brain trying to come up with something. I have stacks of Regency pictures….

I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with. This has been one of the funniest posts I’ve ever read. Thank god, I’d finished my chai tea before I read it. Janet, I think you have your next book.

As if I needed further evidence that Ms. Mullany is a brilliant writer and I, well, not so much. I look forward to seeing everyone else’s entries — this is just the kind of thing we need to offset these gray November days.

Send me the pic and caption and I’ll put them together, Caffey.

Hi Mary, Michelle, Keira, Celia, Susan.

For those of us who are techno impaired and can’t use photoshop, etc., there is a LOLcat builder online, here. I’m going to see how it works and will report accordingly.

Kate Dolan

Too funny! I’m now going to have to suspend all vaguely productive pursuits to find just the right picture…
Thanks for thinking of it – and sharing!
