My mother has been in the hospital and things have been crazy. I leave you with this picture of our new dog, Bella, and a request that you talk amongst yourselves about books you love. Or pets you love. My mom is much improved by the way.

Glad your mom is doing better. Can’t wait to come up and meet Bella!
I’ve been thinking about getting a second dog, since the reigning canine is ten and has had four bouts of cancer. All the Real World stuff (elderly parents in poor health; roommate who was rear-ended BY AN EMPTY AMBULANCE this morning and ended up with a totaled car and a trip to the ER) keeps reminding me that it might be better to wait until spring to go for the back-up dog.
Aww, Bella reminds me a little of my most-favorite fictional dog, Cannonball Simp, from John Burningham’s picture book of the same name.
Congratulations on the new addition and I’m very happy to hear your mother is getting better.
Glad your mother is feeling better! Bella is a cutie and has obviously made herself at home!
Thank you for the kind words. My mom is doing much, much better, but she’s far too thin.
Bella is a sweetheart. The people at the shelter told us several times that dogs there are stressed by the environment and aren’t their normal personalities. We almost didn’t even meet Bella because she was barking just about incessantly. But we did ask to meet her, and she went right to my son and sat on his lap.
And the thing is, in addition to her astonishingly sweet disposition, she’s been with us 2 weeks now and she’s barked exactly twice. She is a very quiet dog.
@KarenMC — wow. You have had some tough times. Good luck with everything!
@Jane George and @lousia Cornell
@IsobelCarr yes, yes, indeed, on both counts!
Thank you!
What a cute doggie.
Carolyn, I hope your mother continues to improve. Hugs on this!
