A few weeks ago, I blogged about my favorite books of 2007. A bit later, I blogged about New Year’s Resolutions, one of which was to reduce the size of the TBR pile. 
So let me share what I am looking forward to in 2008:
Sabrina Jeffries‘ Let Sleeping Rogues Lie (School for Heiresses)
Lilith Saintcrow‘s To Hell and Back (Dante Valentine, Book 5)
Julie Anne Long‘s The Perils of Pleasure
Diane Gaston‘s The Vanishing Viscountess
Colleen Gleason‘s The Bleeding Dusk: The Gardella Vampire Chronicles
Meljean Brook‘s Demon Night (The Guardians, Book 5)
So if an author consistently wows me, I will continue to buy their books. In the years since I’ve made my commitment, authors have fallen off the list, but I’ve added more that I’ve dropped, which is a good thing (except for Lee Child; his books now come out in hardcover, and I don’t do hardcover. I’m not that moral).
I am looking forward to plenty of good reading in 2008, and yes, perhaps, a smaller library? (stop chortling, you guys!) What new releases are you looking forward to?
I’m definitely looking forward to the next volumes of the series I’m following, which include:
Kushiel’s Mercy, the final book in Jacqueline Carey’s second Kushiel trilogy, which looks from the description at Amazon to be a very romancey fantasy novel.
Victory of Eagles, the next book in the Temeraire series.
Hmm, I just checked Lindsey Davis’s website, and it doesn’t look like there’s a new Falco book currently in the pipeline. I hope she’s not stopping…
I have my copy of The Vanishing Viscountess now, and I’m looking forward to reading it as soon as my library TBR stack is reduced enough that I can think about my owned TBRs! (I put way too many books on hold. It’s a sickness. I hear about a book or see an author interview on Stewart or Colbert, and I’m on the library website within seconds. And then I wonder why some weeks ten books are waiting for me to pick up.)

I read the very first Kushiel book, and loved it, but was daunted by the similar length of the next–I guess you would recommend them? I loved that world she created.
Have you read Anne Bishop? Her Dark Jewels trilogy is similar to Carey’s.
A new Temeraire book is coming out this year? Cool!
I’m looking forward to Diane’s Vanishing Viscountess, which I’m finally off to buy today (Borders website promises the store has it in stock!) And a lot of other books, too — though I’m behind on so many of my favorite authors!!!
(I buy their books when they come out, but sometimes I don’t read them for a very long time…)
Right now I’m reading Connie Willis’s SF Christmas story collection… And probably sometime this year I’ll reread a bunch of Bujold, as she’s the Guest of Honor at Worldcon this year!

I’m looking forward to releases by Allison Brennan, Shannon Butcher, Barbara Freethy and Jacquie D’Alessandro.
I haven’t read any Anne Bishop–I have to confess to being a bit weirded out by the Saetan, Lucivar, Daemon, etc. aspect!
As for the Kushiel books, they are a bit dauntingly long. I used to love epic stories like that, back before I was trying to work full-time, maintain a marriage, raise a daughter, and write novels of my own! Now, 300-400 pages is the perfect length, though I still like series so I can keep revisiting favorite characters. Anyway, I love the Kushiel books so much that I’ll make an exception for them. When I get a new one, I just don’t write, stay up late, take long lunches, and am a somewhat neglectful wife and mother for the 2-3 days it takes me to finish them.
I don’t think there’s enough space here to list all the books I am looking forward to in 2008!
I did get my hands on Diane’s book, read it in record time and it was MARVELOUS! I just loved everything about this book. Tanner and Marlena were just wonderful. Here he spends the whole book saving her when, in reality, it’s Tanner who’s been saved. *Sigh*
I can’t wait to see what Pomy gets mixed up in! Do we get a reunion of sorts. Maybe Tanner can pop in or perhaps the reputable rake himself? I’m just sayin’!
BTW, I did get Diane’s book today, so yay! (They had two copies each of Diane and Michelle’s books, and four of the other HHs, which I suspect means Diane and Michelle sell well at that store!) 🙂

Santa, what a nice review of The Vanishing Viscountess. Pomroy’s story has a name! “Scandalizing the Ton” and I have to tell you, Tanner makes an appearance!
It will be out in October.
Geez, some of the books Susan, Jane, Cara and Megan are talking about I’ve never even heard of (but that’s nothing new).
It’s nice to hear Cara and Megan have put TVV on their lists.

Diane, thanks for mentioning SLRM! I hope you enjoy it. The anticipation for the NA release is nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time! I have TVV on the top of my TBR and I’m waffling between starting it now, when I’ll have to devour it in little bites, or saving it for a time when I can gulp it in one delicious splurge!
Megan–I’ve read Let Sleeping Rogues Lie. IMO, one of Sabrina’s best! I can’t wait until everyone else gets to read it so we can all sigh together.
There are so many books out there that I must get to! I’ve started the Gardella, Kushiel and the Temeraire series, but haven’t caught up in any of them yet.
Best of all, I’ve got the next Liz Carlyle waiting for me–Kieran’s story! Man, life is rough. I love this job!

This one is actually only out in the UK this year! Next year, US–but then everyone can read the trilogy in consecutive months, if they can stand it. :))
I HATE it when everyone tells me what is coming out soon, because then I add to the already out of control pile of novels. But I can’t help it when things sound so great. (A new Temeraire novel, yay!)
Diane, I hope a new Megan Frampton will be out at some point–I just started querying agents again.
Deb, I cannot WAIT for your book. So talented, you are. And yeah, the TBR pile just grows bigger and bigger.
I’ve finally purchased The Rules of Gentility (Borders gift card) and can’t wait to dive in.

For the new year so far, I’ve just finished Barbara Freethy’s Taken and Kalen Hughes’ Lord Sin. Enjoyed them both.
I’ve just started an ambitious new project I’m quite excited about. And that means research books. And it’s not even historical!
If I start thinking about what books I plan to read in 2008, I will enter either a manic book-buying frenzy or an anguished “I don’t have time to read the books I already own!” anxiety attack. But, taking deep breaths, a couple that I know I want are Emma Bull’s Territory and the latest by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Bayer. I didn’t know either of those existed until a couple of months ago, when I heard about them here on RR. And, of course, the latest by the Riskies!
