It was a busy few days, yet I still only got to see a fraction of what I wanted! Maybe next year…
So, happy late birthday, Shakespeare! What is your favorite Shakespeare play? Or your favorite spots to visit in New York? (I’m making my list for the next trip…)

Of course for me any New York trip includes a trip to the Met and Carnegie Hall. There is a great music shop next to Carnegie (or there was)and I cannot resist prowling around in a music shop.
Oh and the zoo! I have a thing about zoos. Our little zoo in Montgomery has huge open exhibits and the animals look so much happier in them. I love to compare our little zoo to others. Our zookeepers are all so dedicated and get so attached to their animals. The old female jaguar had to be put down as she had cancer. I don’t know who has mourned her more, her keeper or her mate.
Shakespeare. Hard to pick a favorite. Comedies – The Taming of the Shrew. Tragedies – Macbeth. Histories – All of them!
I would recommend going to the Cloisters, Bronx Zoo and either the Brooklyn or Queens Botanical Gardens. My favorite Shakespeare plays are Macbeth, Hamlet and Twelfth Night.

Hm… I don’t have a favorite Shakespeare play… I had fun at the UN building the last time I went, and Soho.
Oh, I wish I had time for The Cloisters! And a woman at work told me I should have gone to the big Hershey’s store in Times Square. 🙂
I love the Botanical Gardens, the Cloisters and the Met! I’d have to say Grammacy Park is one of my favorite places to visit. If you stay at the Grammacy Park Inn, you get to use the key to walk inside the park. I believe it’s one of the only private parks left in the city. For me, it’s a step back in time to turn of the century New York when only people who lived in the buildings surrounding the park had a key to get in.
I also love Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. And Prospect Park.

lovely art. i enjoyed that particular episode of ‘project runway’! i thought it was a brilliant challenge, to have the designers find inspiration in the museum. would have loved it if someone used that egyptian temple…
i remember the guggenheim from the last (and only) visit to nyc. i was more impressed with the building than the displays, though…

So, Doglady, Shrew is your favorite Shakespeare comedy? I’ve never before met someone who thought that! I learn something new every day. 😉
I have trouble choosing one (or three) favorite Shakespeare plays; for tragedy, it would be Hamlet, Lear, or Macbeth (depending on my mood — I know, a totally cheating answer, sorry!); for comedy, Twelfth Night or Much Ado; and for history, probably Richard II. If I never see another production of Shrew or Dream, I won’t complain. Or, come to think of it, Troilus and Cressida!!! (That was painful.)

And I second Ammanda in saying that A Sinful Alliance is definitely still on the shelves. So by some slight chance you’ve missed reading it, hire a copter to your favorite bookseller and buy yourself a copy. It is FANTABULOUS!!

My fave Shakespeare is King Lear. I barely missed being named Regan, too (it was my dad’s favorite play also).
Hi Amanda! Great photos. Yes, you should definitely try the Cloisters next time and the Neue Galerie which has my favorite cafe, Sabarsky’s. Yummy sacher torte. Skip the Hershey’s store and go down to Jacques Torres for some really good chocolate. Also the Central Park Zoo and the Boathouse Cafe.
On your next trip you really should do The Cloisters! Way cool. But there is so much to see in NYC, it’s hard to get to more than a small fraction in a short trip.
That thing about not being allowed to point at paintings in some museums…I assume they have good reasons, but I must admit I find being scolded for it really annoying. “No, I’m not going to put my finger on the painting, I’m not an idiot!” But perhaps people tend to touch them by accident, or something.

Tragedy…probably Lear, with Hamlet second, but sometimes the other way. (Megan, you were almost named Regan?? Your Dad did know she was one of the bad guys, right?)
Comedy…I think Much Ado has to get the nod there. Benedick and Beatrice are my favorite Shakespearean couple.
History…Richard III, though I admit it is almost ahistorical. It’s a great play, though!

I like the name Cordelia, though I must admit that Buffy the Vampire Slayer has kind of changed my concept of it. I like Shakespearean names…if I ever had I daughter, I would name her Hero. (Well, I’d try; it is likely that the mother of said daughter might have something to say about it.)
