This week, I (Amanda) am out of town. It was an unexpected trip, so I didn’t have time to prepare a proper post. But I was thinking how much I enjoy having Risky Regencies as a place to visit every day, where there are always people who share a love of history, books, and hunky movie stars! So, I decided to share my appreciation of you, our Risky Readers, by having a little giveaway.
A couple of weeks ago, I was at our local Friends of the Library booksale and found a copy of a book I blogged about last month, Antonia Fraser’s Love Letters: An Illustrated Anthology (as well as about 60 other books to pile around my living room, but we won’t talk about that…) This is a gorgeous book, full of beautiful paintings and impassioned words! I already have a copy, so am giving away this new one.
Remember, this is an ex-library copy, so it has some stamps and a plastic cover, but it’s in great shape! If you’d like me to send YOU this book, just leave a comment about what you like about Risky Regencies, why you enjoy visiting, maybe some topics you’d like to see us cover in the future or Regency factoids you’d lke to know. On Sunday afternoon, when I get home, I’ll pick a comment at random to be the winner.
Thanks for reading! And stay Risky!
Sigh! I assume Riskies are not eligible. The book sounds wonderful.
The painting of the girl reading is another of my favorites from the Washington DC National Gallery of Art. I’ve had that print framed and hanging on my wall since childhood!
Diane
We have that print, too. It’s not hanging on our wall, because we can’t decide which prints to put up. Yet. No sense rushing these things…
The book sounds really cool. I envy whoever gets it. But I will answer the question anyway:
What do I like about Risky Regencies? Let me count the ways:
1. There are the fun and interesting posts, often with cool pictures.
2. There are the clever and witty comments.
3. There is the friendly feeling of hearing from some people regularly, while new people pop in from time to time.
4. As one of very few men who comment here, I can often pretend to represent The Male Perspective. (Hah!)
5. I get points as a good husband/significant other/random guy.
6. My wife would hurt me if I didn’t. (Not really! Just kidding! No, seriously, just kidding!)

Todd, nice to see your comments here. Must the start of spring break. All those tortured students finally set free… 🙂
I’m off now to compose the four-page essay Amanda wants of us.
The first item on my list is going to be: Bertie! (Whither art thou? Oops. Couple centuries off. Dang, where the heck are you? Oops. Couple centuries off again.)
Oh, I do so love to be admired. Thank you, Milady Soleore!
Bertie the Beau, at your service
You’ve nicked my profile picture!!!
Clearly Amanda has good taste, Rachel! 🙂

I love picture books-truly works of art. That picture of the girl is lovely.
This site is friendly and interesting. You have such things as recipes, many pictures and some humor thrown in which I like very much.
I love that picture! I too have had a print of it since I saw the original as a child. I’ve recently discovered this site and love the intelligent conversation, the wit, and the wealth of Regency knowledge. But I must take myself out of the running for the book–I already have a copy and can atest that it’s fabulous.
gattRiskies are the greatest. I’ve always loved Regencys and the Riskies have add even more to the enjoyment. All the “behind the scences” info on is great. I’m amazed at the things I’ve learned about the Regency period. The art work is fabulous I’m constantly saying to myself “I’ve got to get a copy of that print”.
I love reading the blog here daily, I have it bookmarked. I enjoy the many interviews and comments by the various people who post here. I’ve learned interesting things and here about many books I’ve never heard of. Thanks for all the insight. Will continue to read daily.
