I love a man with a sexy voice. There are some actors I probably like as much for their voices as for appearance and acting talent. Although it’s not easy to convey in writing, I’m always thinking about how my heroes sound to my heroines.
Colin Firth’s voice has always been part of his appeal for me. I even thought he was the one male lead in Mamma Mia! who wasn’t painful to listen to.
In singing voices, I especially love a good baritone, whether it’s Jim Morrison of the Doors or a classical baritone like the Welsh Bryn Terfel. Here’s a clip of him singing “Vagabond” by Ralph Vaughn Williams.
I can’t end without mentioning my favorite bald hottie, Patrick Stewart.
My apologies for not having any more recent hotties in this list. When my husband had his stroke three years ago, I literally went into a cave for a while and I’m still slowly crawling out. So please help me out. So who do you think has a sexy voice? If I get enough suggestions, maybe I’ll put together a post for next week.

I do so agree, Elena, a sexy voice is the most important thing. The Darcy and Lizzie clip was a treat. I first watched the Colin Firth / Ben Barnes ‘Dorian Gray’ for Colin Firth’s voice but have now also become hooked on Ben Barnes’s voice. As he’s done more theatre, his tone has deepened – and he’s so articulate.
And let me recommend Ildebrando d’Arcangelo, with his erotic baritone. You can find his “Madamina, il catalogo è questo” on Youtube.

Patrick Stewart’s voice can hold me spellbound! Also Michael Gambon and Alan Rickman, I love how they enunciate perfectly but sound leisurely and at ease, very sexy tones! I used to love Jeremy Irons’ voice but he personally annoys me so much that I can’t listen to him now, beautiful voice or not 🙁
Just had to add that Greg Wise has a wonderful voice – a soft, seductive, Henry Crawford type of voice. Only Fanny could resist.
I have a thing for very deep voices. Avery Brooks’ voice is at least part of why DS9 is my favorite Trek. I also like Northern English accents, so Christopher Eccleston’s Nine is my One True Doctor. (I need to get that t-shirt with the TARDIS and caption, “You never forget your first Doctor.”)
So, naturally I love Sean Bean’s voice best of all, given that it’s deep AND Northern.
I love Benedict Cumberbatch’s voice. It’s deep, it’s English–what’s not to love?
I can’t seem to figure out how to convey the depth or tone of a voice in writing though. It reads like it’s a bit forced unfortunately.
James Earl Jones! He was my first fall in love with a voice. Followed by Patrick Stewart. More recently it’s been Josh Groban.
I have the CD’s of Richard Armitage reading a couple of Georgette Heyer’s books. SIGH! My favorite bedtime stories!
I agree that Patrick Stewart and Alan Rickman have amazing voices. My Mom has the tapes of James Earl Jones reading The Bible. A truly wonderful voice.
One of the greatest baritones ever was Cornell MacNeil. He passed away last July, but if you get a chance to hear any of his recordings do so. Fabulous, fabulous rich voice.
Currently the best baritones in the business are Bryn Terfel, Ruggero Raimondi, and Simon Keenlyside.

James Earl Jones has such a distinctive voice, rich and resonant. I have only seen Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter movies, but his voice has a special quality.
