I mentioned earlier that I’m planning a Greek mythology themed children’s party. My husband calls it a toga party for kids, though perhaps that might make some parents nervous!
Like people during the Regency, a lot of kids are into mythology. My own love the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, books featuring modern-day children born of gods and humans that go to a Camp Half-blood, kind of like Harry Potter with Greek mythology rather than witchcraft.
So this weekend we’re going to have the guests take a Greek Goddess quiz, participate in a goddess fashion show (with appropriate props, like that Athena helmet I have still to make!) followed by Greek food, cake, grape juice in wine glasses, etc… Here’s the quiz, in case anyone would like to try it!

What is your favorite animal?
A) Owl
B) Deer
C) Dove
D) Peacock

Count up how many responses you got for each letter. Match the letter you had the most responses with the goddess. A=Athena, B=Artemis, C=Aphrodite, D=Hera, E=Demeter, F=Hestia.
And here’s an adult Greek Goddess quiz at Paleothea. For our visitors of the masculine persuasion, there’s also a Greek God quiz, too. We all know Bertie must be Adonis reincarnated, but I would love to know which Greek God Todd most resembles!
Anyway, I tested out as Athena on the kids’ quiz and a mix of Aphrodite and Gaia (associated with Demeter) on the Paleothea quiz. I must be complex. 🙂
So any of us into Greek mythology? What do you think is the appeal? And if you have time, let us know which Greek god or goddess you most resemble!

I was Athena in the kids’ one and Artemis in the other! Your Greek party sounds fab, wish I could be there. 🙂
I’ve always loved studying mythology, and it’s fun to incorporate it into stories whenever possible. Like the Muse series I’m (trying) to finish, where the heroes and heroines are scholars of the ancient world!
Good luck with the party that sounds like a ton of fun! I’ll have to hint about that to my daughter for her birthday…
I scored almost one of each one for the kids quiz and Aprhodite for the adults quiz…I’m a total romantic I guess 🙂
Btw, I nominated your blog for the Excellent blog award! Check out my blog for the details.
Cheers!
There was a book that came out in the 90’s called The Goddess Within about how to get in touch with your Inner Goddess. I remember that I was very heavy on Aphrodite, Hera, and Demeter and not very heavy on Artemis and Athena.
I’ve adored Greek and Roman mythology since I was a kid. I used to read the Edith Hamilton Mythology book. I incorporated them into my first YA that I wrote.
I don’t mean to boast but I do look like Aphrodite – on the half shell. Ask anyone who’s met me. However, these quizzes say I am both Athena and Hestia which I guess means I’m well-liked and wise. BORING! (but true!)
I always loved mythology across cultures. Fascinating stuff!
Have fun at your party! I think the kids will have a blast!
I’m Hestia.
Elena, I have a toga I made for my daughter when she was about 11. I should have sent it to you!
Fun party!
I’m Hekate.
She wasn’t on your list?
Shhh, I won’t tell her. 🙂
I’m Artemis on the adult one, but Athena on the kids’ one… 🙂
Cara
Sorry, Mme Greene, but your Quizzical Survey claims that I am Hermes.
I can never remember which fellow he was, but I’m sure he was very handsome.
yrs,
Bertie

Why, I am deeply flattered that you care! 🙂 I took the Greek God quiz, and the result was…
…(drumroll, please)…
…Apollo! (Move over, Jamie Bamber!)
Which kind of figures, I guess, though really I’m more of a night person. 🙂
That was so much fun that I took all the other quizzes as well. (And it wastes so much time, which is a side benefit!) So here are the results for my inner…
Greek Goddess: Athena
Monster: The Sphinx
Ancient Queen: Metaneira
Had to look that last one up, but I guess she’s all right. 🙂

LOL On Todd’s quest to be all the god/goddess he can be! Bravo! Of COURSE Hermes was handsome, dear Bertie!
On the kids’ quiz I was Athena with a touch of Hestia and a dash of Demeter.
On the adult quiz I was Hestia. I like that!
I have always loved mythology. I took an elective course in it and high school and I have been hooked ever since. I have no idea how many Bullfinch’s Mythology and Edith Hamilton’s Mythology books I have worn out.
And I LOVE Regencies that depict the fascination people of the era had with all things mythological.
Glad everyone’s having fun with this and I’m fascinated by the results. So many Hestias! No wonder we are a nice community.
Eliza, thanks for the nomination. Will visit after kiddos are asleep.
LOL on Hekate–every party needs one, for spice. 🙂
Bertie, I am certain Hermes was extremely handsome–and fleet of foot, which is useful when one is undoubtedly pursued by so many of the fair sex…
Todd, LOL on all your mythological sides. I couldn’t resist taking the Monster quiz myself. I came out the Gorgon–so beware everyone! 🙂
I got Athena on both quizzes. She’s always been my favorite.

Hmm! Either way, I’d better watch my step. 🙂

Apparently I’m Athena, which I don’t buy at all, LOL!

Susan, why am I not surprised? 🙂
Apparently I’m Athena, which I don’t buy at all, LOL!
LOL, Kalen. I’d have thought you’d come up Artemis.
I’m Athena on both, tho I’m not sure why!
Eliza, thanks for nominating the Riskies.

Wow, Eliza! I totally missed that! Thank you so much.
Well, the kids one I’m a tie between Athena and Hestia with a bit of Artemis and Aphrodite thrown in. 🙂 The other was Athena. 🙂 And yep, I love it when authors put in the idea of the fascination with mythology and the ancients. . . although for me it’s Egyptology. LOL 🙂

I’m Artimis! WOT WOOT!
