Here’s my cover (I figured it out! Thanks, Elena!). Like Cara, I was asked to submit three possible scenes from my book. This scene? Doesn’t happen. The only thing I was adamant about, however, was that the heroine NOT have any curls and have black hair. I also said the hero looked a bit like Hugh Jackman, with extra-broad shoulders. The artist got all those details right, and they look like my characters. I really like this cover, actually, even though there’s no strolling about with flowers scene in the book. To me, it looks like the morning after (ahem). The night before scene is the last one in the book. YES! There’s sex! Oh, how Utterly Risky of me! Anyway, now that I know how to upload pictures, I’m going to be a terror. Ha, ha, the monster has been unleashed! Okay. I think I should cut back on the coffee. More later.

It’s interesting that the two things that you were really adamant about, Megan, they gave you! I wonder if that’s generally true…
But they didn’t use any of the three scenes you proposed? How interesting. Did you propose scenes that might be difficult? Or do you think the artist just had his little heart set on the walking-down-the-street-with-flowers
thing? 🙂
So, let’s see . . . if your hero looks like Hugh Jackman, and mine looks like Russell Crowe in Gladiator (you know, serious, sincere, scruffy Russell, not pretty-boy smirking Russell) — does anyone else here have a hero who looks surprisingly like someone else? 🙂
And while we’re on the subject — Megan, does your hero look like Hugh as Wolverine, or tap-dancing Hugh, or Hugh in that Ashley Judd movie (which I quite enjoyed, actually, but which has a ghastly forgettable title, which is why I’m forgetting it — they should have stuck with the title of the book, which was “Animal Husbandry” — much better) — um, where was I? 🙂

Nice cover, Megan, and it’s great that the characters look right. I still have to say it suffers from the usual Regency cover sameness. I have sometimes seen reused covers with slight changes, possibly computer-generated (I’m not sure from which publishers). I wonder if they reused the backdrop somehow, hence the walking with flowers scene?
Cara, I think that movie was SOMEBODY LIKE YOU. Love Hugh Jackman. I must “use” him sometime, now that I’m done with Jeremy Northam and Colin Firth.

Oh, I love Jeremy Northam! At least, I do when he doesn’t have a silly mustache like he did in “An Ideal Husband.” 🙂
I didn’t know about using movie actors as heroes when I started writing, so my first (and as yet, unpublished) Regency hero looked like a picture I have of Humphry Davy. 🙂

To answer your question, Edwin (my hero–named after my father-in-law, who will NEVER read my book) looks like Hugh in that awful movie where he’s a time-traveling duke, I think, along with Meg Ryan, who stars in the movie almost as much as her haircut. And Titania, my heroine, looks like me, only much, much prettier, and with a broken nose instead of a big, weird tooth, like I have.
Yeah, Elena, it is a generic setting, but at least it’s not too cute. I really hate cute. I did hear one time of Signet reusing a cover from a past book because the original author had died and couldn’t protest them using her cover again.
I enjoyed KATE AND LEOPOLD, but Hugh absolutely made the movie. I usually like Meg Ryan, but not in this one. I just sort of ignored her and imagined myself in her place and it worked out just fine. 🙂
oh, I like this cover, Megan! At first glance, it’s the usual Regency strolling smiliness, but look closer and there’s that sloppy/satisfied air about them. 🙂 She DOES look a bit like you!
I did see a cover once, not too long ago (though can’t remember what it was, sorry) where they had taken the heroine from another recent cover and paired her (via the magic of computers, I’m sure) with a different hero, in a very slightly different background.
Lovely covers, all of them! There is really nothing quite as “handsome” as a good Regency cover.
Megan–how wonderful that the artist got your characters right! I wonder why they did not do one of the scenes you proposed?
